WHICH COLOURFUL BUSINESS PLAN CUT THE MUSTARD ON THE BBC TV SERIES ‘THE APPRENTICE’

This week was the penultimate week of the BBC TV series The Apprentice as series 19 draws to a conclusion and the final two candidates go head to head. Yet here we are with the final five and we’re finally finding out what their business plans and ideas are when we’ve only had hints of it throughout the preceding weeks.

Lord Sugar has a process where five of his trusted business buddies put those plans — and their creators — under the microscope and test every page. It’s brutal with a few soft moments.

Jordan, from Northern Ireland, wants Lord Sugar to grow his tiny little 3D animation business. He’s given the impression of success throughout the process but at the age of 21 he’s only run his own business for eight months through teaching himself 3D animation so he can offer services to bigger businesses. Those of us in business ourselves have walked that walk — and Jordan’s business has to date turned over £20,000. That’s not too bad in less than a year.

However his idea is new, he’d put animations on his website which suggested he’d worked with several big brands but he had not. It was all a lie. He’s in start-up mode, really tiny with so much to learn and for me it became totally clear that he was not ready to manage an investment like that — and he simply doesn’t have the knowledge to spend that wisely or to even…
