Covid19 creates a ripe environment for those in business who always want services for free…

The nature of what I do means that throughout my career of being a journalist and media consultant, people think I’ll do stuff for them for free. After all I’m a journalist right? I’ll write any story for free, won’t I? It’s my moral duty isn’t it? Those who ask will not give a thought to who actually pays my bills.

So let’s be clear from the outset, I’ll make it absolutely plain via my social media channels when I’m looking for case studies for a story, I will also call people who I know fit, email them or send them a message on social media. There will be no grey area, it will be as plain as the nose on your face. Otherwise, if you want me to tell your story, you will have to pay me to do so IF I think it is a story. I’ll be honest about that too.

Do you recognise these people? The ‘freeloaders’, the people who hang around, often on social media, eagerly hoovering up any hints and tips yet not wanting to ever spend a penny working with you?. They want your stuff, however they don’t ‘value’ it or think they should have to pay for it.

During Covid19, this breed of person has been given a new lease of life. Within a week of lockdown their activity started to grow as they sniffed the opportunity created by experts who are having to flex or pivot their business model. Ohhh more free stuff for them…
