FROM THE PIT LANE TO THE PR LANE
It’s that time of the week when I talk to you all about speakers and the power of having a motivational speaker to entertain, inspire and educate those in your team, your ‘room’ or at your event.
This week has seen two of my speakers booked for paid gigs, several inquiries and several people being turned down when they want some of my speakers to work ‘for free’ because they ‘should’ because it offers them ‘exposure’.
While some of my speakers are willing to speak for free, under certain conditions eg. one has agreed to speak in return for a £250 donation to a charity of his choosing — don’t be rude enough to expect people to speak for free because you run a charity, community project or group.
Everyone I work with is self-employed and needs to earn a living and pay their bills. Speaking is part of how they earn that living and it’s their choice about speaking for free — it’s not down to a third party to ask or to expect such a thing.
With that said — if you are someone who is willing to invest in inviting in unusual talent, fabulous story-tellers or educators into your ‘room’ then please read on.
