WHO WILL BE THE HEROES IN THIS YEAR’S TV SERIES?

It’s that time again — and after a pandemic-enforced break — I was stupidly excited and eager to watch the first episode of the 2022 series of The Apprentice with Lord Alan Sugar which aired on the BBC in the UK last night (January 6).

I adore this series and have done for many years, (this is the 16th series) it’s been running slightly longer than I’ve been running my own little business — and when it started I had absolutely no idea that the experiences of those first few candidates would later reflect my own experience.

Initially it was about Lord Sugar finding an apprentice to work within one of his own businesses — later it became about finding a business partner. The winner gets a £250,000 investment into growing their own business. I’ve been lucky enough since then to meet two winners and to work with one where I was employed to make a series of promotional films around one of the winners. She told me she was thrilled with them — which really thrilled me of course.

Lord Sugar spoke on UK tv this week about how much criticism the candidates come in for from armchair critics on social media — and knowing the BBC as I do, I suspect they are schooled about that. People on social media can be so very stupid and cruel.
