The fishy smell of success…or a disgusting stink?

Would team work pay off on the high seas — well off Cornwall anyway…

It was the fourth task on Thursday of The Apprentice in the UK this week when the two teams went head to head to catch, source and sell fish — a task which would be a nightmare for me.

There’s almost nothing about fish that I like, the taste, the smell, the feel and I will rarely eat fish. However there was none of that personal sentiment in this latest task, the aim was to catch fish in Cornwall, source fish in Cornwall, then sell some at a Truro farmers’ market and sell more to chefs in London. The winning team would make the most profit. They had to choose their fish based upon current pricing per kilo — all given to them in their information pack.

Oh to have that info at your fingertips out there in the real world!

Team leaders this week were Alex Short and Harpreet Kaur, though Alex took the job reluctantly after being ‘volunteered’ by bossy Amy — it’s about time she stepped up and put her neck on the line (I’ve got a sneaky feeling Lord Sugar will force the role on her next week…)

However Alex’s team stumbled from the get-go and it was all rather fishy from then on. First the decision was made that they would make crab their Cornish catch, even though you get little meat per crab. They forgot the profit margin there — however it wasn’t the first thing they forgot. Things just…
